Growing Shamrocks (Oxalis) indoors?

Recieved 5 oxalis corms in the mail from a friend and I am wondering how to best grow them. Do you have any suggestions on lighting, how deep, what size pot? anything would be helpful.

I would put them in potting soil, moisten them and put then in a window where they get at least come sun until they come up, then transwer them to a bigger pot. I would get one of those starter sets tht has the little peat starter pots and you cover them with a plastic (clear) top.

St. Patricks Day what are your family tradition to celebrate?

We start the day waking up to the leprechaun turning our house a little topsy turvey, because he is a joker then we find that he has left us bowls of Green Oatmeal and Shamrocks imprinted on our toast. We continue to find little pranks that the leprchaun has left oarund the house. Followed by a huge parade. Then later we dine on Cabbage and corbeaf. What else do you do?

St. Patricks Day what are your family tradition to celebrate?
We get up early and donne our Sunday best (but always in green). We attend mass at the local church and take Irish soda bread to our older relatives. Then its a brunch of bangers and mash at the local AOH (ancient order of hiberinians). After brunch we get ready for the big annual parade. The streets are lined by folks in green and of course a warm wool woven sweater.



Following the parade, there is an irish step dancing contest, and lots of cornbeef, cabbage, and potatos. Later in the night when the wee ones are off to bed, there is much drinking and toasting to another year and those we have lost since last year.

Reply:Last year I made Irish lamb stew and soda bread instead of corned beef and cabbage. It was amazing.



There's shamrock candies and stickers at my house, and we all dress in green... but that's about it.
Reply:I always wake up the family by playing the Irish national anthem. We dress in green, go to Mass and then head out to participate on a float in the local Hibernian parade. After the parade its lots of Guiness and Harp plus corned beef and cabbage followed by Irish Coffee or Baileys.

Which Gas station has better fuel quality?

My coworker said that for a newer car i should use high quality fuel and he said that EXXON has a better quality fuel then RACE TRACK, DIAMMON SHAMROCK and other small gas staions. is this true?

The three main gas importers are Exxon, Mobile, and British Petroleum (BP). Every gas stations you have named mostly get there gas from one of these companies through independent distributers in one way or another. Go with what you like or can afford, but second thought the small stations in no mans land do to mostly having high water percentages.
Reply:Your co-worker sucks, just use what ever gas you want and run the feul injector cleaner threw it when you change the oil. Unless your driving a porsche or something like your rich or something. Just stay away from the gas stations that everyone says sucks and stay away from the stations that are selling the cheapest gas, the ones that sell the most expensive gas and the ones that no one goes to.
Reply:It honestly doesn't matter. Many gas stations buy from other distributors that aren't their name brand per se. SO you think you're buying amoco and it could be shell gas.
Reply:No other gas station has "better" gas than another. Your co-worker just says that because other gas station are probably not as well known and have a low-rep. Yes, you should use high quality fuel an all cars regardless, for better economy, power, and its better for your engine.

Reply:Just remember that there are only so many refining companies out there most "GAS" comes from the same place. Don't belive the hype gas is gas. As long as the station has tanks that don't leak and are not contaminated any gas will do.... OH yea and you may wanna check your owners manual some cars recommend a grade of gas exp. 87 octane or 89 octane putting anything higher could cause premature engine failure.

I need ideas for a homcoming float the theme is paradise/beach ect..?

luau? any ideas or things to include would be helpful.. keep in mind we only have 2 weeks to build and a small budget

my school is the pleasure ridge park panthers ( red and black)

I think that the float itself should be a large desert island. On one section of the float, you can have paper/wood palm trees and real coconuts. Or, perhaps you could have two palm trees with a hammock connecting the two. That would be paradise-like. You should also include one or two beach chairs occupied by a person (or two) catching rays. Also, I think if you got real sand from a beach, it would also be a good touch.

I found an egg! A little white egg will the bird come back for it? Is it abandoned?

I moved my plant inside to water it and discovered why I saw a bird sitting in my shamrocks (it's a hanging wall basket with coconut liner) I havent' seen the birds visit in the past two days though, won't they usually sit on the egg all day and night... night here it's 54 degrees. Would it be a mistake to take the plant and hang it back up outside? I didn't touch the egg but I did touch the hanging basket... bird people that know was this egg abandoned? I saw two birds two mornings ago hangin out in the plant they're grey and look like the same size shape as a dove. They make a lot of cewing noises when they fly around. What kind of bird is it? Is it normal to leave the egg alone for so long?

is the egg in a nest in the plant? If there is only one egg, the bird may still in the laying process, and most birds will not start incubating them until all or almost all are laid...this can explain why they are not caring for it yet. Put the plant back where it was and they may come back and finish laying. It could also be that they decided this was not a good nesting area and have moved on to another site. Are the birds Mourning Doves perhaps? They commonly build nests in plants.

Reply:DEFINITELY put the nest back. They will most likely return to lay more eggs in the next few days. Females only lay one egg per day, and don't incubate until the clutch is complete or nearly complete, so don't worry if you don't see them around!
Reply:Leave the egg alone. There is no way unless you are an expert to tell whether or not the egg was abandoned, or if that is that type of birds usual habit. Also, nature is always best left uninterrupted. Even National Geographic Photographers try to leave the areas they visit undisturbed. Even if it was abandoned, what can you possibly do for the egg? You cannot properly incubate it because you have no idea what the the proper conditions are. Sorry, but stay away :)
Reply:You can hang the plant back outside and wait a couple of days to see if the bird who laid it returns.It is very normal to find an egg in a nest with no parent bird around.The reason is because they do not begin to set on the nest till they have laid their clutch.Typically most birds do not stay around the nest site till they are ready to start incubating the eggs.The first reason is so they do not attract attention to their nest,this helps keeping it safe from predators.The other reason for this is so all the eggs hatch at about the same time.The purpose for the eggs all hatching close to the same time is because the chicks will need to begin being fed.To do this the mother will have to leave the nest to gather food.Being baby chicks eat a lot and often she doesn't have the time to set and incubate eggs and feed the chicks that have already hatched. Even when male and female birds share nest duties as soon as the chicks hatch it is a full time job for both to feed them.Any eggs which did not hatch will be pushed out either by the parents or the chicks in the nest.There are very few things which will cause a bird to abandon it's nest.yet in the event they do.It is still best to leave things as you found them.Because there is no way of knowing if the eggs are still viable.It is perhaps one of natures cruelties.but all part of the process.
