What so think about Tito Oriz?

To me it seems like he's has been going around picking fights with other fighters. Look at the Ken Shamrock feud. He flipped the dude of for no reason. Also look at the feud between him and Rashad Evans. You could see that he walked over and just got up in his face (go to utbe if you want to see). Maybe it's only me. The question is; is he cocky or confident? Does he has a reason to be cocky?

What so think about Tito Oriz?
Personally, I don't like Tito Ortiz. Why? As a Mixed Martial Artist myself, I pride myself on the fact that I don't downtalk any of my opponents; whether I'm going to fight them or not. It's just bad karma. In this game, they say that big egos, a cocky attitude, and trash-talking is crucial factor. I disagree.

A common misconception that was, and still is made, by the general public is that Mixed Martial Artists (Ultimate Fighters) are animals/barbaric. To me, trash-talking your opponent before a match and making all these claims on what you're going to do to him only justifies the general public's stereotypes. If you pull the classic "high-school drama" trash-talking, than people are going to look at you as an under-developed moron. Think about it, when a ring announcer/interviewer walks up to a fighter and asks "What are you thoughts about your future opponent" which answer would you give the fighter more respect for?

A)I think he's all talk. I'm a better fighter than him, I'm younger, I'm faster, I'm gonna get in the ring and I'm gonna knock him out. (Tito Ortiz style)

or

B)I respect him as a fighter, and I'm not going to take the match lightly. I'm going to train harder than I've ever train before. (Georges St. Pierre style)

It doesn't take any effort/talent to down-talk anyone. Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz had their feud going on for ages. They both trash-talked each other day in and day out. That's why it was hard to choose who you actually wanted to win. To me, it was like watching Saddam Hussein fight Osama Bin Laden; whoever lost, nobody cared because nobody liked either of them.

Given the controversy that Mixed Martial Arts caused in this country when it first came out, I think that showing a little bit of class and respect for your opponent is a crucial factor in developing yourself/career as both a fighter and a decent human being. It doesn't take any skill to talk, but it takes a little bit of control to decide what comes out.

Oh, and for the record to completely answer the question; Tito doesn't even have any reason to be cocky. He's not as good of a fighter as he thinks he is. He beat Ken Shamrock 3 times...great job! He BARELY beat Forest Griffin (controversial, I disagree with the desicion), he got annihilated by Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture spanked him. Need I keep going? The only legit fighter that he's really beaten lately is Vitor Belfort. The reason people view Tito as a good fighter is because he was good when everyone else wasn't. He was one of the earlier UFC fighters before fighting styles got truly established in the UFC. He's over-rated.
Reply:I hate Tito and his career has been on a major down slide. Although I agree with your point that he was a very good coach on the TUF show, I think in a couple years from now he should stop fighting and just train young talent with team punishment.
Reply:Tito Ortiz needs to go to WWE where he belongs, the biggest weapon in his arsonal is his mouth, he uses it to talk crap before every fight, then when he gets called on something (like using a racially charged term to refur to Rashad), he says oh I just hyping the fight, Im selling PPVs, and he uses it to make excuses for losing. I wanna see a tito/wandy rematch so bad so that blond f@get can get beaten into a 3rd grade reading level like his whore girlfriend.
Reply:Tito is a guy who likes to entertain his fans and also likes to play head games, it is part of the sport, he is confident, to be a fighter you need to be confident. He has all the reason to be confident, he is a former champion, he is a guy with a great record who has defeated some very good fighters like Wanderlei Silva, Vitor Belfort, Ken Shamrock,Vladimir Matyushenko, Evan Tanner, and Yuki Kondo. Ya, some people do not like his antics but hey if they dont like it beat him, he is confident and he has all the right with all he has accomplished.
Reply:Oh yeah, like that time he got mad at that dude and hit him. And then the other dude hit him back. And it hurt. Like sin. And it was funny. And like, who remotely cares?

Reply:Tito will be the first to admit most of his stuff is about showmanship.

Most of the time he is caught up in the moment and gets a little out of control, but then I have also seen him be super respectful with fighters.

He is just trying to put on a show, develop some hype for fights and help sell tickets. That is his biggest draw really, he likes to play the heel, it makes him recognizable and gives people a reason to want to buy tickets.

It is one of the reasons he was brought back.

It's not so much ********* or confidence, just showmanship and trying to give a show.
Reply:NO he is to cocky when he is not the best fighter.
Reply:he is selfish. he is getting better after the chuck liddel fight. but i dont think he is that great of a fighter. he always picks easy fights. the fight against chuck was not a easy one and what do you know he lost. and chuck liddel had a bad knee. i think tito is over rated. but thats only just my opinion
Reply:Tito is Tito. If you give him respect I think he respects you back. If you disrespect him or piss him off, look at because he will gun for you until you are beat to a pulp or out cold. He's a fighter an Alpha Male. He trains hard, he wins lots of fights, he's an accomplished and well paid professional athlete. He is at the pinnacle of this game. Wouldn't you feel a little cocky knowing you got the good to make millions and knock well trained hard fighting dudes out?

I love Tito and I met him once at a KOTC event. He is an awesome man to meet and DAMN he has huge mits.

Reply:It's all show with Tito. He knows how to get people going and promote his fights. He actuallly seems like a great guy if you've ever seen anything on him away from his fights. You can watch season 2 of TUF and see another side of him. He's been the best coach they've had on that show. I think he's a great fighter and was once the most dominant most feared fighter in the UFC. He's starting to slide a bit, it seems like he's a stepping stone for any upcoming 205 lbs. fighter. If you want to get to the top you have to go through Tito. I don't know if that's a good thing but that's the way it seems to me.
Reply:Tito likes to run his mouth. My girlfriend and i are huge Tito fans and we cringe when ever he starts to shoot his mouth off too much. In season 3, he did show a side that was very respectable, but he has done and said some things from time to time that take away from that. As for givin Shamrock the birdy, there was a reason for that. there were a number of conflictions of personalities before that and Tito had just ran through number of his fighters. As for Rashad, i've heard that Tito went up to him to kinda get a feel for him and said something to the extent that he was gonna kick his @$$ on 07/07/07. Which is common for just about any fighter out there. But Evans said something else that was a little worse and then that of course gets Tito goin even more. He's a great fighter and has done a lot for the sport. He brought in Dana White (via being his manager at the time) and Chuck Liddell (via being his sparring partner). He is both cocky and confident. He believes in himself and his abilities (confidence), but the way he expresses that is what makes him come off as being a cocky prick. He does have reasons for being cocky, he was unstopable for about 3 years in the UFC and had 5 successfull title defenses, the longest running right now and will still be depending on the outcome of Liddell/Jackson on the 05/26/07. Tito is a guy that you either hate to love or love to hate. The dude is bad@$$ and will be around for a while in the UFC unless he does something to really piss off Dana.
Reply:Tito is an idiot. He was a good fighter but his time has passed. Like the Gracie's, the sport has passed Tito by.

Besides that, he's dating a nasty ho that has banged more dudes than...I don't know what. And I think he's doing it because she's rich so that also makes him a gold digger.
Reply:Tito is cocky but I don't have a problem with him. He's a good fighter and he's always entertaining.
Reply:i think he is cocky, if he was really confident he would keep his mouth shut more often, and i think he may have bit off more than he can chew with evans, evans is faster and a better wrestler
Reply:Read between the lines, something is going on with him in his personal life that's effecting his professional life. This guy went from being a jerk to being a coach on TUF3 %26amp; being loved by former fans %26amp; new fans to now being a super jerk. I don't see Tito in UFC after his contract is up.
Reply:Tito is no more cocky than anyother MMA figher. Tito puts everthing he has into his sport and takes it very seriosly. At the same time he does have a humbleness about him that you have to respect. Tito is a geat fighter thats that...
Reply:Yea, Tito is a cocky guy. He was the UFC light-heavy weight champ for years and was for a while the face of the UFC. So he has a reason to be cocky. However, with MMA being the fastest growing sport in America Tito finds more competition like Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell. Tito's not good enough to hang with the best anymore, the only thing he knows how to do is act tough and be cocky.
Reply:yes he is cocky......but its his was of get publisity and he wants to show that he ain't afraid of anyone!
