How did Tito Ortiz lose his UFC belt?

Was he defeated? Cause it goes from Him defending his belt against Ken Shamrock then it goes to Randy Couture beating Chuck Liddell for the Light Heavyweight belt. Did he walk away like BJ Penn? Thanks.

What happened was Chuck Liddell was the #1 contender at the time but Chuck and Tito were former training partners and while Chuck had no problem fighting Tito, Tito wouldn't fight Chuck, so the UFC said screw you and Chuck fought Randy for the "Interim LHW Title" which Randy won so he fought Tito for the "Undisputed LHW Title", Tito obviously wanted a rematch so the UFC said fine but to get it you have to beat Chuck Liddell, Chuck won, and Tito has been crying ever since.

after defeating shamrock, chuck liddell was the #1 contender for the title and even though tito had publicly challenged him before, he claimed they were now good friends and would not fight each other even though chuck was willing to fight. To try to get tito to fight, the ufc made the interim heavy weight title which was like a fight for whos next in line to fight him between randy coture and chuck liddell which randy coture won. Then tito and randy fought which tito lost by unaimous decision. So tito had to fight chuck liddell at ufc 47 for whos next in line for the title, chuck knocked him out in the second round and now tito has been doing **** ever since except for calling out Dana White and then not showing up to fight.
