Why do most bartenders pour Guinness like its PBR or Bud Light?

Don't they know that you never rush a Guinness.

1. fill half way, wait.

2. after half settles use spoon.

3. make shamrock in the head with the tap.

no tip for you!

Why do most bartenders pour Guinness like its PBR or Bud Light?
Imagine an American bartender confronted with the task of drawing a a genuine hand-pulled ale.

After about 1 minute they'd be asking the customer if they want something else -- preferably in a bottle -- because in their opinion "the tap seems to be broken."
Reply:its beer, duh
Reply:Because they don't know any better. And by the way, no self respecting bartender EVER, EVER needs to use a spoon. Pour two thirds of pint, allow to settle, then fill pint.
Reply:You need to be trained to draw a proper pint of Guiness (or any other stout with a big head, for that matter). Most people never learn this skill properly, and in a busy bar some bartenders can't be bothered to wait. More's the pity.
Reply:Typically people want their drinks, as quick as possible. At the same time, you need to take a look at how busy the bar is. If there isn't that many people waiting to be served, you can ask them to do it your way. Make sure you leave them a little extra. ;)
Reply:Most American bartenders have little or no experience with stout...there's not a big demand for it. Mores the pity.
Reply:Because they are usually busy and don't take the time to do it right.
Reply:Because a LOT of people don't know how to DRINK beer or pour beer. They think that if there is a lot of head, they're getting ripped off. They posture and pretend they're all about the flavor, but then they want it freezing cold with no head.
Reply:I like

guinness, however it's poured!
Reply:Amen! Guinness is in a class all it's own.
