Who here thinks that Ken Shamrock's image took a negative hit from his role as coach on The Ultimate Fighter, while Tito Ortiz's image got a boost.
Question about Ken Shamrock?
it was his coaching style that made him look bad. tito took his fighters game to the next level and proved that he was the better coach.
Reply:I think that Shamrock really screwed himself with appearing on TUF. He was obviously just there for himself and had no interest in helping the members of his team. I've heard alot of people saying that their opinions of Tito have changed after seeing how dedicated he was as a coach. It was never about him, he did it all for the guys. I think Ortiz has gained himself a whole new fan base.
Reply:Shamrock's team should have just coached themselves. Ken was upset, I'm sure, but he'll make up for it at 61 (hopefully).Ortiz is a bleach blonde turd.
Reply:Just got to say this Shamrock for his age is one of the best fighters . But for his coaching abilities He has none. Tito got the boost.. Shamrock should have stayed at home.
Reply:I think that he got negative image off of it but it was his choice to take it up and he got what he made of it!!
Reply:He has been hit in the head too many times
Reply:i think that they are both a couple of lame candy asses.
Reply:When Shamrocks ship started to sink his only attempt to keep it afloat was picking a fight with Tito in front of his team, looooooooser.
Reply:Shamrock's Lion's Den training took a hit. If he trains, and everyone in the Lion's Den trains, like he taught on the show, then it made it look like a joke. The results may even show how much of a joke his training is as only one of his fighters made it to the finals.
Tito's training style got a huge boost. He trained his guys hard, especially in cardio. A lot of Ken's guys just couldn't keep up with Tito's team.
Reply:Tito looked good , Shamrock looked lazy.Points for Tito.We will see when they battle again.Tito will be victorious.
Reply:Shamrock started out with pride and claiming he wants RESPECT, like most fighters usually do. Tito is a punk who rarely shows respect to other fighters. But, by the end of the series, Tito behaved himself, showed Ken respect as a coach and as a show participant. Ken didn't coach as well as Tito though. Now Shamrock looks like a whiner and Tito has an improved image. So yes, you are absolutely correct!
Reply:I don't think Ken image took a bad hit just because of the show. He is a angry little man who is not doing so well at the moment and won't be doing so well when Tito beats the snot out of him for the 2nd time. On the Show Ken could have bonded with his team but did not at Sat. fight Tito was STILL in his fighters corners except for Josh and Michael because they were both his but he sat at the announcers both and watched. Ken I don't think really invested in his team and was just their for face time and try to get at Tito. He never even sat in his 2 fighters corner he sat in the audience and only got up once for a presentation.
If he looks bad it's his own fault.
Reply:I think Tito, despite his slightly negative image, is a guy who genuinely loves and cares about the sport. I really think they he had a good time training these guys and can see Tito, after he leaves the ring, running his own camp like a Pat Milletich(not sure on the spelling).
Reply:ok at this point in their fighting career they should only be centering on technique their cardio should not be a question thats something the individual should be working on on theri own you should not have to be taught that because all fighters know thats somthing you need to be successfull i mean kens cardio is and will never be in question
Reply:Big time. Shamrock went into TUF as the favorite because of the caliber fighters that've come out of the Lion's Den. Tito was known for his arrogance. Tito said from day 1, "Let's put our differences aside and make it a good show because it's not about us, it's about the kids we're going to train." From the second episode on, you can see the difference in training styles. Tito brings in Saul Soliz for striking and Dean Lister for grappling. Who does Shamrock bring in, a boxing coach named Roman and a strength and conditioning coach named Dan Freeman? If anyone remembers Ken's first words to his group, he says something along the lines that he doesn't know a thing about jiu jitsu so don't expect me to teach you any jiu jitsu, I'm going to teach you all what got me through my career and that's proper striking? Ed then says what's a bodybuilder going to do for me a jiu jitsu guy can't? That should have been an indication to everyone there's going to be trouble in paridise! Tito trained side by side with his fighters, pushing them all the way, Ken observed from the outside and seemed lost at times. Dana said it himself in the last episode, Ken probably figured if he does the show he gets Tito in a rematch and trained his guys half-assed while Tito never gave it any thought of the rematch and was only concerned for getting the best out of his fighters. To take it even further, look at most of the elimination fights that went on, Tito's shouting good sound advice, Ken's just shouting. Tito scouted and planned with Saul %26amp; Dean a game plan, Ken just told his guy's to do what they do best WITHOUT discussing a plan of attack! Ross is just going to throw bombs, Soloman is going to over power and over welm Rory, Nickels should have no problem taking Matt out since Matt is only a wrestler and knows very little about arm bars and submissions. Look at the end results, Ross loses twice because of lack of planning, Soloman got gased after the first round due to lack of conditioning, Nickels not only loses his fight but gets his nose broken in the process, and Jesse to throw him in all this just flat out wasn't ready for TUF cause he had his fight with Noah won had someone taught him better ground and pound work with defense to not get caught the way he did. You don't hear alot about the Lion's Den now a days in UFC and there might be a reason for it. When Ken and Tito faught the first time, Ken was the favorite cause everyone wanted him to put Tito in his place. Tito won and moved on while Ken couldn't let go and that was evident in the way Ken trained his guys and had Tito on his mind all the time. Tito was the favorite the second time around not because he won the first fight, but because he won over new fans while Ken probably lost fans due to his behavior. Tito already had the battle won years back, now he won the war overall!
Reply:It's funny that his little brother Fank can beat him up... Most of those guys are so juiced up on roids that they arent nice to begin with. Ken's core of assistent coaches was a joke.
Reply:Ken's image took a big hit on the TUF 3 show. It showed how selfish Ken can be. He only agreed to be a coach so that he could fight Tito. I think that's why Dana pitched it to him that way. If it would have been a different fighter, I think Ken would have said set up the fight, but don't count on me coaching for TUF 3.
