Any particular reason why the color green is considered unlucky?

I always thought green was a very lucky color because it's the color of Ireland, shamrocks, four leaf clovers, the fourth color of the rainbow, tree leaves, plants, grass, moss, sea algae, seaweed, emeralds, 50% of the sea, 50% of the ocean and of course money.



So why is green considered unlucky?

People, answers please!

Any particular reason why the color green is considered unlucky?
My grandmother was Irish %26amp; wouldn't let my uncle have a green car as it was 'unlucky'. although green is associated with many things Irish today, traditionally it is the celtic colour of death and also of the faerie people (note how even twee stuffed toy leprechauns are depicted wearing green).

In original folklore the Sidhe, the faierie folk, weren't cutesy little beings saying 'top of the mornin to ye'-they could be up to 7 foot tall, pass as whirlwinds and weren't that well-disposed towards humans, especially if insulted.

Irish people until relatively recent times would not allow certain ancient mounds to be excavated by archaeologist or roads to be put through old 'faerie forts'-just in case.
Reply:To some Mexicans, Green is a homosexual color (???). I know this because I'm an Irish American and I used to love to wear green a lot. I got whistled at on those days by my Mexican American male classmates. I asked what waz up with them and they said that green was a 'gay' color. WTF?



To the English and Scots-Irish Protestants in Ulster, its the colour of dissent. Irish Republicans wore green as a sign of Irish solidarity.



In Italy, Its the color of envy and the evil eye. I kind of understand this, except I don't.

envy is not exactly something you want to broadcast to anyone.
Reply:I have never heard of green being considered unlucky. I know black sort of is (black cats and all that), but I NEVER heard that about green.
