We are hosting a small dinner party , 20 guests which we have hired a cater for. It's our 35th wedding?

anniversary. We are doing all the decorating, which they offered to do. We are furnishing the linen tablecloths and napkins. Also special sugarcubes with shamrocks on them, as it has a Irish theme to it.

We took care of the cake, champange, nuts, mints, small plates, crystal-plastic wine glasses, etc. Do we still give them a tipp ? I f so how much.

They are cooking the food, bringing over, serving, %26amp; cleaning up

Thank you for your help %26amp; advice.

I agree with Julie H - perhaps have the $10 or $20 already folded up into nice little miniature minty green envelopes - then hand them to the serving / cleaning staff you feel deserve the tip. You have made such a beautiful effort to make everything else so beautiful and matching the theme - why not continue that with your tips too - on the front of the little envelope have a little shamrock drawn and in black calligraphy "thank you".

Congratulations on 35 years - that is wonderful! Have a lovely party!
Reply:You've been married 35 times? Holy crap!
Reply:Yes, you tip them. If they were catering a wedding, there would be tips. Same thing.
Reply:Yes..you should tip them about 5 % of their total bill If they were doing more or providing more services than you would tip them more. If they were to do the whole thing than a 10-15% tip would be in order.
Reply:Give each person $10-$20 cash. Do not include the tip or they will have to pay tax on it and then it amounts to next to nothing. Tip more if you find someone is doing an outstanding job. The same applies if you find that one of the servers was rude, don't tip that person. Fold the bill in half, place it in their hand, smile and thank them before they leave.
Reply:1/2 of these people are crazy! You should tip them 20% of the total bill.

The linens wouldn't have been involved in the tip.

You would have been charged extra if they had to decorate for you.

You only have done things to save on the total bill.

Your are assuming that all of those things were your caterers job but, you still would have paid for it. I'm sure you were trying to save money.

So, of course you would tip people who have to come in and take care of you and all your guests.
Reply:Yes, they are loosing profits on something they do by your outsourcing, plus they still have to handle the items, serve them, and clean up after them!

Tipping depends on the service, and how demanding you and your guests are! I try and allot 25% for tips, and adjust from there. Sounds a bit high I know, but you want this to be special, and caters DO remember who tips, and who stiffs, they talk!

Congratulations on 35 years!
Reply:Of course. 18 to 20% and if they did a really great job, even 25%.
Reply:You tip them at least 15% of the bill. You are saving money by decorating and buying some things yourself, but they still should be tipped. I would suggest 18% though. I guess it depends on your area. Do a quick search for some restaurants in your area and see what their tip requirement is for groups. You should live up to that standard.
Reply:If they do a good job, you should tip your servers, maybe not the people who run the company, but the people doing the dirty work should get a tip if they do a good job.

Give the tip to them yourself, don't trust the person who is taking your check. Servers and cleaners and cooks don't typically make a whole lot of money. Tips are almost always appreciated.
