Fireman love st. patricks day and you see alot of shamrocks on fire engines, helmets, etc. but I dont understand what the fire service actually has to do with ireland or anything irish.
Whhat does the fire service have to do with ireland?
In the 1800's, a lot of Irish immigrants first found work as firemen or policemen; in fact, in some cities, Irish immigrants created the fire departments. Over the years, a lot of Irish-Americans have still found work there, because their parents or grandparents were firemen and they wanted to "keep it in the family."
Reply:Because, traditionally, Fire Departments in eastern cities had a lot of Irish employees
Reply:many irish emigrants took up jobs as fireman and the tradition held with families for generations
Reply:St. Florian was irish and he was also responsible for organizing firefighting brigades..... DUH.... any educated firefighter should know this...The Roman regime sought to eradicate Christianity, and sent Aquilinus to persecute Christians. When Aquilinus ordered Florian to offer sacrifice to the pagan Roman gods in accordance with Roman religion, he REFUSED, and cheerfully accepted the beatings of the soldiers, who used clubs, spikes and fire to torture him. He was executed by drowning in the Enns River with a stone tied around his neck. Later a woman named Valeria had a vision in which she saw him while she was trapped in a fire.
