I remember seeing and eating a fruit at the Shamrock Foods Show in AZ/ It was redish and the size of an avacado. It was spikey, but not sharp, and the spines curved in the same direction all the way around. When you cut it open, the fruit is kind of like a grape with a seed in the middle. Its alot like a lychee, but I no it wasn't, because all the pics on the internet show it just as bumpy. What is this kind of fruit? I'm pretty sure it had a weird name.
What kind of fruit is this?

The fruit is a round to oval drupe 3-6 cm (rarely to 8 cm) long and 3-4 cm broad, borne in a loose pendant cluster of 10-20 together. The leathery skin is reddish (rarely orange or yellow), and covered with fleshy pliable spines, hence the name rambutan, derived from the Malay word rambut which means hairs. The fruit flesh is translucent, whitish or very pale pink, with a sweet, mildly acidic flavour. The single seed is glossy brown, 2-3 cm long, with a white basal scar; it is poisonous and should not be eaten with the fruit flesh.
Reply:That may be a dragon fruit.
